Goal

Quick, repeatable steps to eliminate grinding/rasping by fine-tuning SRAM AXS shifting (MicroAdjust), plus quick battery checks.

What you were trying to solve

  • Want fine-tune adjustments from the controller (not limit screws)

MicroAdjust (fine-tune trim) — the core idea

  • MicroAdjust is for tiny inboard/outboard trim changes to dial shifting and reduce noise.
  • Tech tip (SRAM): “Less is more. MicroAdjust one click at a time until performance is optimized.”

How to do it (general AXS controller method)

  1. While riding (best with suspension in normal sag), press-and-hold the AXS button on the controller/shifter.
  2. While holding, tap the shift paddle/button in the direction you want the derailleur to move.
  3. One tap = one micro step. Repeat one click at a time until the noise/hesitation is gone.

Note: Button mapping varies by controller type (Pod vs older AXS controllers). If you tell me which controller you have (AXS Pod, Rocker Paddle, etc.), I’ll tailor the exact left/right button mapping.


When NOT to MicroAdjust

If shifting is wildly off, skipping, or you recently changed parts (hanger, cassette, chain, wheel), MicroAdjust may not be enough—setup/alignment may be needed.


Limit screws (H/L) — when they matter

  • H limits travel at the smallest cog.
  • L limits travel at the largest cog. Use these only if you’re overshifting into the spokes/frame or can’t reach the end cogs.

Check battery status

  • Press the AXS button on the derailleur and the controller.
  • No light = battery is out of juice.

CR2032 controller battery tip (SRAM)

  • For best performance, use CR2032 batteries without a bitter child-safe coating ring, which can interfere with contact.

Trailside fallback if controller battery dies (SRAM)

  • Use a quick single or double click of the derailleur’s AXS button to shift:
    • Single click = harder gear
    • Double click = easier gear
